February 7:
Story: Jesus heals the blind man (Matthew 20:29-34; Mark 10:46-52;Luke 18:35-43)
Key concept: Jesus loves everyone
Spiritual characteristic: Loving others
Activity: Blindfold your child. Have them walk around the house blindfolded. You could also could put objects in the bag and have them pull them out and try to identify them. Talk about what it would be like to be blind. Then read the story about Jesus healing the blind man.
February 14:
Story: The good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37)
Key concept: Jesus wants us to love everyone
Spiritual characteristic: Loving others
Activity: Help your child think of ways that they could help others. Write down their answers. Examples would be: opening the door for them, doing chores, sending cards, sharing etc. Help your child choose one way to show love to others each day of the week. Read the story about the good Samaritan.
February 21:
Story: A widow’s two coins (Mark 12:41-44; Luke 21:1-2)
Key concept: Jesus wants us to give
Spiritual characteristic: Generosity
Activity: Spread coins out on a table and lay a piece of paper over them. Let your child use the flat side of a crayon and rub over the coins to make coin impressions. Talk to your child about the widow who gave everything she had. Set up a bank in your child’s room for him/her to put money in that he/she can give back to God each week.
February 28:
Story: Joseph and his brothers (Genesis 37–46)
Key concept: God wants us to be kind
Spiritual characteristic: Kindness
Activity: Make sugar cookies or a gingerbread shaped cookies with your child. Help them decorate with several colors of frostings in strips to represent Joseph’s coat. As you eat the snack together, read and discuss the forgiveness and kindness that Joseph showed to his brothers.
Pray for these characteristics in your child: Spirit of love, Generosity
Example prayer: God, instill in my children a desire to give of themselves. Help them to always be honoarable in their actions, sincere with their words, and display gentle treatment to others.
